1. Removing the 10 pm curfew at 49ers Levis stadium for concerts:
a. For every concert that happens at the 49ers Levis stadium, the city generates approximately $ 500,000 in revenue.
b. I have a very strong inclination to work together with businesses that are present in our city. These are businesses that have invested time, effort and tremendous capital in our city, and we should be able to work together with businesses.
2. Rebuilding a big thriving downtown:
a. Our new downtown, located where the old downtown used to be, should have plenty of housing. Housing is very expensive in Santa Clara, and prices are increasing. We need to build more housing in downtown so that supply outpaces demand, and prices come down by the demand and supply principle, Economics 101. Land is at a premium in Santa Clara, so we need to build vertically in downtown.
b. We need to support business and nightlife in Santa Clara downtown.
3. Removing Cannabis moratorium:
a. City Council has placed a moratorium on recreational cannabis in Santa Clara. However, Santa Clarans can still get cannabis if they want it, there are Cannabis shops in San Jose that can deliver cannabis to Santa Clara.
b. So then why do we not have cannabis shops and dispensaries, and have cannabis indoor labs at appropriate locations in Santa Clara? We are missing out on substantial tax dollars from the Cannabis industry as a city.
4. Live outdoor music at restaurants, bars and clubs in Santa Clara at affordable license cost
a. Live outdoor music creates an amazing vibe, and will make our restaurants, bars and clubs a destination for people from Santa Clara as well as neighboring cities. We want this to happen, so that spending in our city will increase, and the city can then make substantial sales tax dollars.
The next two points address the tremendous inefficiency that exists in the way our city functions. Inefficiency is directly proportional to cost, and substantial cost.
5. Improve the building permitting process in Santa Clara
a. The building permitting process in Santa Clara is extremely cumbersome, creating tremendous inefficiency and time loss. This is not good for the businesses either. We need to make sure that we find a method by which permits are grouped together, and simultaneously approved by the city.
6. Public Sector and Private Sector Partnership
a. Some city services should be contracted to the private sector. This will allow specialized businesses to work on niche areas, helping reduce tremendous inefficiency.
b. Essential services such as police, fire, paramedics and all first responders will not be contracted out to private sector and will remain with the city.
There are two more things I would like to mention:
7. Loan Fund To Support Small Business In Santa Clara
If elected Council Member I would like to initiate a loan fund to support those small businesses in Santa Clara that have a great track record, but are struggling because of Covid19.
8. Property Tax: I Support Prop 13
I support Prop 13, and I am NOT in support of raising property tax for businesses or for individuals.
